VA Foreign Medical Program (FMP)
The Foreign Medical Program (FMP) is a VA benefit that covers healthcare services for U.S. veterans with service-connected conditions who are living or traveling outside the United States.
What is FMP?
FMP provides reimbursement for medical services related to service-connected disabilities received at non-VA facilities outside the U.S. Veterans pay for services upfront and submit documentation for reimbursement through the VA.
This program allows veterans living abroad to continue receiving necessary medical care without returning to the United States.
Eligibility
- U.S. veteran with a VA-rated service-connected condition
- Registered with the VA Foreign Medical Program
- Treatment must be for the service-connected condition
- Medical prescription or referral is required
